Case Study 1: ProtectorGlaze - Search Engine Optimisation

Overview

The new ProtectorGlaze website (www.protectorglaze.com) was delivered in january 2006. Basic SEO was covered, but at this point WEBMESTERS were engaged to undertake a further 2 days SEO work. The objective being to significantly improve the site's web ranking over time for certain specified keywords/phrases.

 

With SEO projects, we target GOOGLE and YAHOO rankings. Between them, these 2 search engines power of 95% of all web search results.

 

As GOOGLE rankings are significantly influenced by quality inbound links, we identify a list of (usually between 15-20) target sites that we would seek to obtain an inbound link from. These are usually directory listings sites - either generic business listings, or business listings associated with the type of industry our customer is involved with. With ProtectorGlaze, we targetted construction industry directories. Some of these are free listings, others require reciprocal links, others require a registration fee. We seek advice from the client before registering with any directory listing site.

 

Objectives

With the ProtectorGlaze SEO project, our objectives are:

  • To gain top 10 (page 1) GOOGLE/YAHOO rankings for specific keywords/phrases over 3 phases (hopefully quicker if possible):

    • Phase 1: 12-16 weeks.
    • Phase 2: 24-30 weeks.
    • Phase 3: 36-48 weeks.
  • These timescales allow for the fact that this is a brand new site with no SEO history - i.e. we are starting from scratch.

Phase 1 objectives for keywords/phrases were met. Preliminary results for phase 2 and 3 are mixed: great results with "temporary glass protection" and "peelable coating" whilst others require some rework of site content to improve results.

All Phase 1 and 2 objectives have been met. YAHOO results are very good with all Phase 3 objectives met 5 months ahead of schedule. GOOGLE phase 3 results are good at this stage with more work to do on 1 particular phrase.

 

As with all SEO, this is an ongoing project. Watch this space for further progress.
